AWS revealed a four-agent architectural pattern built on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore and the Strands Agents SDK to automate cloud migrations. In an internal project covering 300 applications, the system reportedly reduced infrastructure as code development time from several weeks to minutes by coordinating specialized agents via the Model Context Protocol.

Multi-agent migration architecture

AWS Professional Services developed a pattern using four specialized AI agents to handle the discovery, design, and deployment phases of cloud migration. The system operates on the Amazon Bedrock AgentCore platform and utilizes the Strands Agents SDK to coordinate tasks. One agent ingests documentation and inventory lists to produce target architectures and resource sizing, while others manage code generation and deployment monitoring.

The architecture relies on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect agents to organizational data sources and infrastructure tools. This setup allows the agents to act as a hybrid layer alongside existing services like AWS Transform and the Database Migration Service. A centralized execution plane triggers the resulting infrastructure as code and monitors deployment outcomes through real-time observability tools.

Compliance controls and requirements

To maintain security, the pattern includes a validation step where Amazon Bedrock AgentCore evaluates tool calls against Cedar rules. This process checks for dependency conflicts and ensures that proposed infrastructure changes align with compliance windows before execution. The system is designed for environments where organizations build and maintain their own MCP servers to expose internal tools to the agents.

Access to this workflow requires an AWS account with Bedrock AgentCore and foundation model permissions. Users must also be familiar with the Strands Agents SDK and MCP server patterns. The developer notes that this agentic approach is intended for custom automation needs that are not already covered by standard AWS managed migration services.
