Meta has launched Muse Gadgets, an open-source project providing firmware and a Linux SDK. The toolkit enables developers to connect the Muse AI agent to custom hardware, such as Raspberry Pi or ESP32 boards, allowing the agent to interact with physical displays, sensors, and home automation systems.

Open-source toolkit for hardware integration

Meta introduced Muse Gadgets to allow developers to build physical devices that interface with its Muse AI agent. The release includes open-source firmware and a Linux software development kit compatible with low-cost hobbyist components like Raspberry Pi and ESP32 boards.

The project encourages the creation of custom interfaces including e-ink displays and HDMI-connected modules. Meta demonstrated a reference device called Muse Home Link, which uses the SDK to bridge the AI agent with existing smart home networks, speakers, and televisions via a USB-C powered connection.

Hardware compatibility and development status

The current release focuses on providing the software infrastructure for tinkerers to link the agent to buttons, actuators, and various sensors. While Meta has tested the code on its own prototypes, the project is structured as a framework for third-party development rather than a finished consumer product.

The available documentation provides project starting points, but developers must supply their own hardware and handle the assembly of components. The integration remains in a technical stage suitable for hackers and researchers rather than general users seeking a plug-and-play solution.
