Google opens free AI watermark checker to all

A new website lets anyone check if images, video or audio carry hidden AI watermarks.

Ars Technica reports: Google launched SynthID.com, a free tool detecting invisible watermarks from Google, OpenAI, Nvidia and others. Users get about 10 daily checks after logging in.

What changed

Previously, checking SynthID watermarks required using Gemini or individual partner tools. The new standalone site offers one-stop detection for multiple AI systems, though it only confirms watermark presence, not which regions were altered.
